St. David’s Medical Center and Medicare
If you are on Medicare, you may be wondering about which providers and hospitals accept your insurance. There are a few types of coverage options available to Medicare beneficiaries, so your plan’s acceptance is first based on which type you have. Some Medicare benefits are accepted all over the country while others are limited to specific regions. We’ll review each type of Medicare coverage. Once you know which one you have (or want to get), you’ll know if you can use your Medicare insurance at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, TX.
Traditional Medicare
Every Medicare beneficiary begins their medical coverage with Traditional Medicare, which consists of Medicare Parts A and B. Part A offers hospital insurance, which helps pay for the room and board expenses you’ll incur as part of an inpatient hospital stay. Part B offers outpatient insurance, which includes coverage for doctor’s visits, diagnostic tests, surgeries, and other outpatient services.
Traditional Medicare is widely accepted all over the United States, including at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, TX. There are no provider or facility networks for Traditional Medicare. If your healthcare physician agrees to accept Medicare assignment, you will have coverage. Even if they don’t, you’ll still have benefits, but you may pay more out-of-pocket. This is not a common occurrence.
Medicare Supplements
Once you have Medicare Parts A and B in place, you’ll likely choose either a Medicare supplement, also called a Medigap plan, or a Medicare Advantage plan. Let’s talk about Medicare supplements first.
Medigap plans are standardized. Standardization means that no matter who you purchase a Medigap plan through, your coverage will be the same. There are currently ten Medigap plans on the market, the most popular being Medigap Plans F, G, and N.
Like Traditional Medicare, there are no networks associated with Medicare supplement plans. As long as your physician accepts Medicare, they’ll also accept your Medicare supplement, no matter which insurance company you purchased it from.
Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare Advantage plans work a little differently and you’ll need to pay closer attention to your plan if you enroll in one of these. There are a few types of Medicare Advantage plans, but all of them utilize provider and facility networks. Some offer no benefits outside of the plan’s network.
This means that before you see your doctor or have treatment done, you’ll need to make sure both the provider and the facility are in your plan’s network. Network status can change annually, so you must verify their network status often and be willing to switch providers if your current one goes out-of-network.
Accepted Health Insurance Plans
Now that you know what to look for, let’s take a look at the insurance carriers that are accepted by St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, TX. While this list will give you an idea about the status of your insurance carrier, you will need to verify the network status directly with your healthcare team.
